Robert Schuett is a career civil servant currently on leave with two decades of experience in government service, national security, and international affairs. He has held senior analytical and leadership roles within the Austrian federal government, including at the Ministries of Defence and the Interior and at the Office of the President of the Republic of Austria.

His work focuses on national and international security, strategic competition, hybrid threats, transatlantic security, and questions of international order. A realist political and international relations theorist, he also works on the theory and ethics of intelligence and is widely recognized for advancing a realist reinterpretation of Hans Kelsen. 

He serves as Chair of the Austrian Political Science Association and is the 2025–26 Fulbright-Botstiber Visiting Professor of Austrian American Studies at Stanford University. He holds a PhD from Durham University and a Habilitation in political science from the University of Salzburg and teaches regularly at the Diplomatic Academy Vienna. His book Hans Kelsen’s Political Realism was translated into Spanish in 2025.
